Kyo-shippo (京七宝) often asks to be noticed at the scale of a hand: a nail cover in a Kyoto temple, a sliding-door pull at Katsura Imperial Villa, a detail at Manshuin or Honganji Kuroshoin. The making begins with a mainly metal ground. Silver or other flat wire marks the pattern, enamel fills the spaces, the piece is fired at about 800°C, and the surface is polished. That sequence gives the craft its hard line and luminous color without detaching it from use. It can belong to architectural fittings, to a vase on a table, to an accessory, or to tableware. Its Kyoto history runs through Azuchi-Momoyama interiors, late Edo to Meiji glaze work at the Seimikyoku, and the Kyoto-centered work of Namikawa Yasuyuki.

It is written 京七宝 in Japanese. Search Rakuten and other Japanese sites with that spelling — the English name will not return the listings.
Porous earthenware is usually given a "medome" treatment first — simmer it gently in rice-rinsing water (or water with a little flour), then cool, rinse, and air-dry. This reduces staining and absorbed smells. Porcelain normally just needs a wash. Follow the listing where it says otherwise.
Handmade earthenware, pieces with gold or silver overglaze, and lacquerware generally should not go in a dishwasher, microwave, or heated drying cabinet; heat-resistant porcelain usually can. Check the Rakuten listing for the specific piece.
Kyo cloisonne is a tableware from Kyoto. We compile its regional connection and characteristics against official registries, local sources, and live Rakuten listings.
Most options are shelf-stable, boxed, and travel well, so they suit gifting or bringing home. Confirm the final storage and delivery terms on the Rakuten listing.
We don't sell directly. This page compiles Rakuten listings and affiliate links; purchase, payment, stock, and delivery all happen on the Rakuten listing.
